“A VW Passat disguised as a work van! “
With only 5 hours available, part one of this extreme makeover consisted of:
- A full vehicle clearance,
- Finding the interior underneath,
- Assessing the main tasks for the hours given,
- Emptying and drying out the waterlogged boot,
- Remove the dust, dirt, grass and creepy crawlies,
- Restore the driver’s areas as much as possible,
- Get rid of the stale, damp smells and…
- Prepare the customer for what day two will entail.
Have a look at the before shots to get an idea of the extent of the job.

With less than a full day to work on, the decision had to be made to “make the most” of the time we had.
The owner told me:
“It’s been two years since I cleaned it. I’ve got to the point where I’ll just get rid of it!”
I couldn’t have that! At the very least, I wanted to get the vehicle to the point where the HazMat suit (that was found in the bottom of the boot) was not necessary for every drive!
The customer works in the Agricultural industry and often uses the 2012 Passat Estate as a work van, transporting: Mowers, Chainsaws and various gardening tools from worksite to worksite.
With 5 hours down, and a need to use the vehicle, SJ Valet completed day one returning a far more usable vehicle.
The spillage in the boot meant that a good 3 litres of old, muddy, water was sloshing about in the spare wheel well! Some towels and a good degrease got things back to a usable position. The customer even joked;
“It even feels faster now!”
We even managed to get the spare wheel back to where the spare wheel should go and the boot back to a usable space. We also found enough spare change under the seats and in the footwells for a couple of pints! Nice! 🙂
Day 2 (and possible 3) will entail:
- Wet vac all carpets,
- All seats and fabrics cleaned and stain-removed as much as is humanly possible,
- Steam cleaning the headlining, taking care to reduce the risk of sagging,
- Steam cleaning all the surfaces,
- All vents cleaned,
- O2 machine used to remove any returning smells and…
- Then it gets an air freshener!
The outside is another story… for another day entirely!
Check out the DAY ONE Gallery below! Not a finished job, by any means, but a massive improvement already…

I’m looking forward to getting stuck in for day two, awaiting the customer’s availability.
